Out of Ilium: Aeneas en route with Anchises

Julius Caesar, 47-44 BC. Denarius.
Obv.: Venus, mother of Aeneas.
Rev.: Aeneas bearing palladium (lf) and Anchises (rt). Insc.: CAESAR.

The coin links Rome's founding by Aeneas with the founding of Caesar's own line, the gens iulia supposedly named for Aeneas' son Iulus (Ascanius).
